Are you a great leader? Do you want to become a great leader? Every one of history’s greatest leaders was at one time a neophyte. This book was written to help you become a great leader.
This book is meant to serve as your daily leadership guide. You’re welcome to read it straight through, however it was written to be used as a guide for whenever you need advice on a particular aspect of leadership. Imagine being able to ask Alexander The Great a question about strategy, or General Patton about how to inspire loyalty amongst your team, or perhaps having Machiavelli whisper in your ear some sagely advice on how to navigate office politics. Well, now you can.
In his brilliant book “On Leadership” John W. Gardner noted that, “At the time this nation was formed, our population stood at 3 million. And we produced out of that 3 million perhaps six leaders of world class― Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Franklin, Madison and Hamilton. Today our population stands at [322 million], so we might expect at least [106] times as many world class leaders― 638 Jeffersons, Madisons, Adams’, Washingtons, Hamiltons, and Franklins. Where are the Jeffersons and Lincolns of today? The answer, I am convinced, is that they are among us. Out there in settings with which we all familiar are the unawakened leaders, feeling no overpowering call to lead and hardly aware of the potential within.”
And to that I would add, let’s extrapolate those numbers to a global population of over 7 billion people. Surely there must be thousands of visionary leaders amongst them?
I challenge you to step forward and become one of this century’s great leaders. And remember, great leaders aren’t born, they’re forged.
